Bio

Vitrice is a native of Mississippi and is the daughter of blues recording legend Lillian McMurry of Trumpet Records in Jackson. Vitrice graduated from LSU with a major in English and a minor in art. She first studied jewelry-making there, studied with Jamie Bennett, Ursula Duba and most importantly, James Carter. She taught metalsmithing for 31 years at Metairie Park Country Day School. She was Crafts Director for the first ten years of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In 2014 New Orleans Magazine named her one of the city’s top female achievers. She is one of the founding members of RHINO, a non-profit craft cooperative and is currently Gallery Director.

She is married to New Orleans singer/songwriter/guitar instructor John Rankin and has a daughter, Anne, an art teacher. She has a zany Jack Russell terrier, Jackson.

Vitrice has shown at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for many years, as well as the Ann Arbor Art Fair, Festival Acadienne, Sak’s Fifth Avenue, American Craft Council shows, and the Buyers’ Market of American Crafts.
